  • Job Description: The Retail Sales Associate is responsible for engaging customers, selling books, and delivering
    exceptional service both in-store and online. The role involves recommending books, supporting
    marketing efforts through social media and activations, and ensuring the store is clean, well-arranged, and
    adequately stocked. The ideal candidate is proactive, flexible, team-oriented, and committed to
    contributing to both personal and organizational growth.
    Key Responsibilities

    1. Sales and Customer Engagement
    Promote daily, weekly and seasonal sales strategies to drive in-store and online purchases.
    Actively engage customers with a warm and friendly approach, providing personalized assistance.
    Recommend books based on customer interests and age group, with a strong command of product knowledge.
    Promote loyalty programs and encourage customer registration and participation.
    Upsell and cross-sell where applicable to maximize sales opportunities and achieve sales targets.
    2. Inventory Management
    Maintain up-to-date book listings on the e-commerce platform.
    Assist in keying in new stock, especially highlighting books by Kenyan authors.
    Ensure all items listed online have accurate descriptions and meaningful captions for ease of search and visibility.
    Conduct regular shelf audits to ensure proper stock rotation and replenish as necessary.
    3. Store Operations and Merchandising
    Maintain a clean and organized store environment by dusting shelves and arranging books attractively.
    Assist in store merchandising efforts, especially during themed or seasonal campaigns (e.g., Father’s Day, Book Week).
    Support supervisors in executing in-store display concepts and setups.
    Ensure merchandise is well-labeled, organized by category/genre and appealing to customers.
    4. Marketing and Promotions
    Take high-quality photos of books and store activities for social media (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) posting.
    Participate in in-store marketing events and activations such as book signings or reading corners.
    Attend offsite marketing events and activation campaigns representing the company.
    Promote B2B sales through partnerships with schools, institutions and libraries.
    Collaborate with supervisors to promote special packages and bundles online and in-store.
    5. E-commerce Support
    Upload books to the e-commerce platform with meaningful, optimized captions.
    Monitor and update inventory levels online to ensure synchronization with physical stock.
    Assist in fulfilling online orders, packing and managing pick-up or delivery processes.
    Share insights on fast-moving items and customer preferences to inform online promotions.
    6. Administrative Duties
    Record and report the arrival of new stock, particularly for featured or local authors.
    Draft creative content such as quotes or reading tips for bookmarks or other customer touchpoints.
    Prepare and submit reports after marketing events or promotional campaigns detailing performance,
    feedback and sales.

    Qualifications:
    • A Bachelor Degree or a Diploma in Sales, Marketing or related field is an added advantage

    Experience :

    • Prior experience in a retail environment is desirable

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Creative mindset, especially in merchandising and social media content
    • Tech-savvy with basic knowledge of POS systems and e-commerce platforms
    • Detail-oriented with good organizational and multitasking abilities
